John Vellacott

John Vellacott is a retired Police Officer. Throughout his 30 year police career he served  in the Metropolitan Police Service before transferring to Devon and Cornwall Constabulary. He was predominantly a detective, finishing his career as the Commander for Crime and Criminal Justice with responsibility for the following departments:  Major Crime including Serious and Organised Crime, Special Branch, Public Protection, Intelligence, Forensics, Covert policing and Criminal Justice. John was also the Deputy National lead for Modern Slavery and worked with the Home Office and other partners to draft the current modern slavery legislation and embed national best practice.Since retiring in 2017 John has worked as a consultant for the Police and Crime Commissioner in Devon and Cornwall developing a diversionary programme to prevent young people slipping into crime. He also chairs Fitness to Practice panels at the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
