Melissa Oura

Melissa Oura graduated in Dentistry from the University of Wales College of Medicine in 1996 and joined the Royal Naval Dental Services.  Her seventeen-year military career included General Practice in both the UK and overseas as well as at sea operationally.  She obtained the Diploma of Membership of the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners (UK) and developed her interest in Forensic Odontology, gaining the Apothecaries Diploma in Forensic Human Identification and completing the American Armed Forces Forensic Dentistry and Emerging Technologies course.  She served as a Team Leader on the Military Dental Identification Team for a number of years, also qualifying as a Trauma Risk Management Team Leader and carrying out this pastoral role within the team.  Her Forensic role has continued through her work with the British Association for Forensic Odontology where she served as a committee member and she remains a member of the UK Disaster Victim Identification Team, having deployed to support National Incidents.Currently working within HM Prison Service, she has furthered her keen interest in Law by undertaking a Masters in Medical Law and Ethics at De Montfort University.
